Beschreibung

BGR is carrying out a geophysical research cruise including a 2D seismic survey with the German research vessel RV MARIA S. MERIAN in the waters NE of Iceland (Iceland Plateau & Iceland-Faroe Ridge). This research cruise MSM143 with the project acronym NINA is aiming to record a seismic image of the crustal composition in order to map the distribution of continental fragments. The survey starts on May 14th 2026 in Reykjavik, Iceland, and will end on June 18th 2026 in Reykjavik. During the survey, seismic reflection and refraction profiles will be acquired for a period of approximately 16 days using one 6 km long seismic streamer and several ocean bottom seismometers. The reflection seismic source array is a tuned G-gun array, consisting of 16 G-guns (SERCEL blue pulse) arranged in two strings (port side and starboard), each string consisting of 4 clusters with a pair of 2 G-guns. The total volume are 3100 cuinch (51 l). The refraction seismic array volume applied on two lines is enhanced by additional 4 G-guns (4x 520 cuinch).
